ERIKA SIROLA’S DEBUT  INTO THE FASHION WORLD

Handmade Finger Armour by Erika Sirola

Each ring is a singular piece of wearable art, handcrafted by Erika Sirola from antique spoons sourced across Finland, primarily from the historic region of Karjala in the east. These spoons — some silver, some silver-plated, some alpakka (a traditional Finnish alloy) or mixed metals* — are often over a century old, carrying the patina, marks and histories of their former lives.

Working in her underground studio, where trams rumble above her head, Erika forges each ring entirely by hand. Using a 19th-century blacksmith hammer, a mandrel, diamond files, and bending tools, she upcycles the spoons into rings. Many of the unique markings that appear on the rings are not fabricated, but discovered — remnants etched into the metal long before Erika reimagined them. Each piece is finished with an oddly stamped or engraved “E”.

The resulting rings are bold, armour-like, and “medieval” in character. Designed to work as individual statement pieces or assembled into full hand sets, they create the illusion of finger armour — jewellery that creates the allure of a strong physical and/or psychological shield.

The idea was born in connection with Erika’s Four Faces EP (album), which explores Jungian archetypes and the psychology of self, examining how we mask, shield or reshape identity. Each song on the EP is paired with a suite of visuals that extend her storytelling across mediums. The rings act as a tactile extension of this concept: armour for the hands, symbolic of the ways identity can be both displayed, altered and hidden.

*Please note: Given the vintage nature of the source material, some rings may contain trace nickel.
